Rates & Insurance
Self-Pay Fee
Our fee is $175 per 55-minute session and $250 per 80-minute session (the latter is generally utilized for couples and family sessions and is not covered by insurance). Session length can be increased or decreased as needed, and we’ll adjust the cost as appropriate to reflect this change. Once you become a client, phone consultations or written reports that involve more than 10 minutes will be charged our office visit rates.
All clients are required to keep a valid credit card on file. This card will be charged on the day of your session. We utilize Stripe to collect payments, and when your credit card is charged, you’ll receive an email notification/receipt from Stripe.
Reduced-Rate Fee
We offer limited reduced-rate spots from $100-150. If you need a lower rate, we encourage you to consider Open Path. Just follow this link to learn more: https://openpathcollective.org/
No Surprises Act and Good Faith Estimates
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. The No Surprises Act requires that state-licensed and certified healthcare providers provide a Good Faith Estimate of charges to every new and continuing client who’s either uninsured or isn’t planning to submit a claim to insurance for the services that they’re seeking.
You have the right
- to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- to receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before you receive your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
- to dispute a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate
- to have a copy of your Good Faith Estimate
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises , call 678-802-9355, or email info@modernpath.net.
Insurance & Payment
At Asheville Family Counseling, we do our best to make the insurance process as smooth and transparent as possible—while also being clear about what is and isn’t within our control.
In-Network Plans
All of our clinicians, with the exception of Stacey Curnow, are in-network with most Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna plans, including the State Health Plan.
We also accept Meritain, Gravie, and Allied policies that utilize the Aetna provider network.
We are not in-network with the following plans:
Aetna plans that utilize Optum Behavioral Health through Mission Hospital, Blue Home, Blue Local, Healthy Blue, and Blue High Performance Network.
Understanding Your Benefits (Important)
Before your first session, our admin team will do our best to verify your benefits and provide you with an estimate of your expected costs (copay, deductible, etc.).
However, it’s important to know that:
Insurance companies—not our practice—determine your final cost
Benefit quotes are not guarantees of payment
Policies can be complex, and coverage can change
For this reason, it is ultimately your responsibility to understand your insurance plan, including your deductible, copay, coinsurance, and any coverage limitations.
We strongly encourage you to contact your insurance company directly to confirm your benefits and ask specific questions about your plan.
Client Financial Responsibility
All fees, including deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and any non-covered services, are the client’s responsibility.
If your insurance company denies a claim for any reason, you are responsible for the full session fee.
Out-of-Network Coverage
If we are not in-network with your plan, you are responsible for determining whether your policy includes out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health services.
If applicable, you will submit claims directly to your insurance company. We are happy to provide a Super Bill to support this process.
Medicare & Medicaid
We are not in-network with Medicare or Medicaid.
Due to Medicare regulations (not our preference), clients:
Cannot opt out of using their insurance for covered services
Cannot be provided with Super Bills
We understand this can feel frustrating, and we’re always happy to help connect you with trusted providers in the community who are in-network with Medicare or Medicaid.
North Carolina ESA+
We are providers for the North Carolina NCSEAA ESA+ program. Education Student Accounts (ESA+) scholarship funds help North Carolina families pay for education and services for children with disabilities. We are licensed clinical mental health professionals, and we provide relevant services that support neurodivergent clients with executive functioning, emotional regulation, and learning challenges. We are able to give you an invoice that you can submit to ESA+ in order for us to receive payment directly from them through Class Wallet. Please let us know if you’d like to use your ESA+ funding for services with Asheville Family Counseling.
