Transform Your Relationships: Exclusive Family Counseling Intensive
Welcome to a transformative journey designed for families, and any relationship, facing significant conflict, seeking rapid growth, deeper connections, and increased understanding.
Asheville Family Counseling Intensives
The Family Intensive offers more than just strategies, it’s an immersive, healing experience that fosters better communication, greater understanding, improved problem-solving skills, and a lifetime of deep connection.
Let's Get Started
Addressing the Heart of the Conflict
At Asheville Family Counseling, we understand that families are complex systems where each member’s feelings, needs, and experiences are interconnected. At the heart of family conflicts is often a profound struggle to feel seen, heard, and understood. In our Family Intensive, we create a space where every voice is valued, where time slows down enough for each person to share their story and feel truly heard. This process of mutual understanding forms the bedrock of family healing and connection.
Why Communication Breaks Down
In many families, unspoken expectations and unmet needs can quietly drive a wedge between loved ones. When family members don’t communicate their needs and expectations clearly, misunderstandings and disappointments build up over time, leading to frustration, resentment, and a cycle of unresolved conflicts. The Intensive is designed to break this cycle by fostering open, honest communication and creating a safe environment where each person can express themselves without fear of judgment.
Our Family Systems Approach to Transformation
In the Family Intensive, Stacey draws from the family systems theories of Murray Bowen and Richard Schwartz, recognizing that each family member’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are intricately linked to those of the family as a whole. This approach allows us to help each family member uncover and express their underlying needs, understand their unique strengths and challenges, and appreciate their individual roles within the family system.
Through this process, families gain a deeper understanding of one another, shifting from a lens of frustration to one of empathy and respect. This enriched perspective helps family members move beyond reactive patterns, fostering a collaborative environment where everyone feels valued. As each person develops greater insight into their own and each other’s experiences, they find new ways to support and connect, strengthening the family as a cohesive, compassionate unit.
A Pathway to Deepened Family Bonds
The Family Intensive offers more than just strategies, it’s an immersive, healing experience that fosters greater understanding, resilience, and closeness. Through this journey, your family will learn how to build healthier communication patterns, develop stronger emotional bonds, and create a supportive environment where each member feels valued and connected. Imagine a future where each of you feels deeply understood and supported, no matter what challenges arise.
The Family Intensive is a transformative experience designed to help your family build a foundation of trust, empathy, and lasting harmony. Whether your family is navigating a major life change, grappling with unresolved conflicts, or simply seeking a stronger, more unified bond, the Intensive offers a pathway to healing and growth.

The Family Intensive Experience
Ready for Rapid, Lasting Transformation?
You can choose from multiple options — 1, 2, or 3 days — depending on the level of exploration, spaciousness, and integration you’re seeking. Whether you’re navigating a specific challenge or working toward lasting transformation, there’s an Intensive format designed to meet you right where you are.
Each day of the Intensive includes at least five hours of highly personalized support (typically 10–12 and 1–4), allowing us to go deep into the patterns that are no longer serving you and help you move toward clarity, connection, and healing.
The schedule unfolds with each principal family member participating in an individual session in the morning, followed by a lunch break, then a three-hour family session in the afternoon. This schedule is generally repeated daily for three days to provide a comprehensive and transformative experience for your family or relationship.
What’s Included Beyond the Intensive Itself?
✔ Pre-Intensive Preparation
We’ll kick-start your journey with thoughtfully designed pre-Intensive materials — including a 50-page workbook with personalized questionnaires that help clarify your goals, highlight patterns, and set the stage for deep, focused work.
You’ll also receive valuable resources to support your growth, including my bestselling book, Repair Your Relationships: Reset, Reconnect, and Enjoy Your Most Important Relationships, and its companion Guided Journal.
✔ Post-Intensive Integration Session
Roughly six weeks after your Intensive, we’ll reconnect for a dedicated follow-up session to reflect on what’s shifted and support continued integration:
-
1-Day Intensive → 1-hour Post-Intensive
-
2-Day Intensive → 2-hour Post-Intensive
-
3-Day Intensive → 3-hour Post-Intensive
✔ Detailed written summaries after each session
Following each day of the Intensive, you’ll receive thoughtful summaries highlighting key insights, emotional themes, and clear next steps. This helps your family integrate what you’re learning in real time and ensures nothing gets lost in the intensity of the work.
✔ Unlimited “Need It Now” Calls
Between your Intensive and the Post-Intensive integration session, you’ll have access to short (15-minute) check-in calls whenever you feel stuck or need quick clarity. These calls are designed to support you in real time when you need it most.
This experience is built for deep, sustainable change – and you don’t have to figure it out alone. If you’re unsure which option is right for you, I’d be honored to talk it through.
Benefits of Family Intensives
During the Intensive, we take a deep dive into the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions Model (CPS). This framework offers a wonderful approach to understanding what’s making it hard for a person—whether a child or an adult—to hear, understand, and meet the needs and expectations of others.
The CPS model is a non-punitive, skill-building communication model based on empathy, collaboration, listening, and respect. It helps us uncover the deep underlying needs that individuals struggle to meet. By understanding these needs, we can work together to find solutions that work for everyone involved. This approach not only resolves conflicts but also builds stronger, more empathetic relationships.
What Families Actually Gain From an Intensive
Families consistently share that the greatest value of an Intensive is the experience itself. During our time together, families often discover that even when things feel hard, they are capable of showing up, engaging, and finding new ways of being together. Parents gain clarity about how even well-intended strategies may be increasing stress, learn how to practice CPS tools with support in real time, and leave with a clearer sense of how to move forward without forcing compliance. Together we build trust, skills, and momentum.
The Intensive is meticulously crafted to accelerate and enhance desired outcomes, including:
Understanding Each Other Better
Gain a profound understanding of each person’s perspectives and needs.
Effective Communication
Learn compassionate dialogue for authentic expression and collective growth.
Proactive Problem Solving
Develop strategies to create a foundation for sustained personal growth and harmony.
Stronger Connection to Each Other
Hold each family member—yourself included—with more grace and compassion.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can benefit from Counseling Intensives?
Counseling Intensives offer an ideal solution for those seeking swift and profound personal growth and transformation. If you’re ready to catalyze change in your life, a Counseling Intensive provides a compelling option. Tailored to your specific needs and objectives, this accelerated counseling format enables clients to delve deeper and achieve desired results more rapidly.
Can younger children (under 16) participate in a Family Counseling Intensive?
Family Counseling Intensives are not recommended for children under 12. The intensive format – typically 5 hours a day over one or more days – can be overwhelming for younger children. This kind of deep therapeutic work relies on strong verbal communication, emotional insight, and abstract thinking – skills that are still developing in younger children.
However, families with young children can still receive meaningful support through Parent Coaching, especially when using the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model. This approach focuses on helping parents understand and respond to challenging behaviors by building skills and strengthening connection through collaboration – not “consequences.”
Parent Coaching sessions are typically with the parent(s), but children are invited to join when appropriate. As long as your child has functional verbal skills and no significant language processing issues, this model is incredibly effective for addressing challenges and improving family dynamics, even with young children.
Can I do an Intensive alongside my current counseling?
Absolutely, you can certainly do a Counseling Intensive as an adjunct to your ongoing counseling with your primary counselor. In fact, it often complements your regular counseling sessions quite effectively, especially when you encounter specific challenges or feel particularly stuck in your progress.
Numerous counselors highly recommend their clients engage in Intensives with me for precisely this purpose. To guarantee smooth collaboration and coordination between myself and your current counselor, I kindly request that you sign a Release of Information. This ensures that we can work together seamlessly to maximize the effectiveness of your therapeutic journey.
How much does a Counseling Intensive cost?
A Wall Street Journal article on high-impact therapy reported that Counseling Intensives typically range from $7,000 to $15,000, and while the Intensive I offer is at the lower end of this range, it’s very much in line with what other experienced professionals charge for this level of care. The cost of a Counseling Intensive also varies depending on factors such as the number of days booked.
Each Intensive is meticulously crafted to ensure a unique and transformative experience. As we consider the possibility of embarking on this journey together, it’s crucial to recognize that it entails not only a significant investment of time but also a commitment of financial resources.
Here’s a story that may resonate with you – the tale of Picasso and the napkin. Legend has it that Picasso, when asked to sketch on a paper napkin, requested a million Francs in return. Perplexed by the seemingly high price for a drawing that took mere minutes, the admirer questioned the value. Picasso’s response was profound: “My dear, it took me a lifetime to be able to draw this sketch.” He wasn’t merely seeking compensation for the act; he sought recognition for the years of study, practice, and mastery that led to his ability to create a work of art swiftly.
I approach our work with the same dedication that Picasso brought to his art. The investment in the Intensive reflects not only the time spent during those days but also acknowledges the cumulative experience, expertise, and commitment I bring to our sessions. I feel confident that, much like Picasso, I can help transform your relationship into a work of art once again.
Can my insurance help pay for a Counseling Intensive?
Unfortunately, Counseling Intensives are not covered by insurance for a variety of reasons. Firstly, insurance companies often have strict criteria for reimbursable services, and the non-traditional format of Intensives do not meet these criteria. Additionally, the duration of Intensives, with longer sessions over a shorter period, do not align with insurance policies designed for shorter, weekly sessions. Furthermore, there are limitations on the types of counseling covered by insurance, and Intensives fall outside of these covered categories. Finally, the highly customized nature of Intensives can also pose challenges for insurance companies in standardizing reimbursement criteria. These factors collectively contribute to the unfortunate reality that insurance does not cover Counseling Intensives.
When are payments due? Do you offer refunds?
In order to book your session, a non-refundable deposit is due to secure your spot.
I can also offer flexible monthly payment plans. I completely understand that the full cost up front may not be feasible — and I never want finances to be a barrier to healing. That said, I do ask that clients not carry credit card debt when entering into a payment plan. The work we’ll do together is meant to support your growth and reduce stress, not add to it.
While I am able to reschedule your Intensive with at least 2 weeks’ notice, please note that all payments are non-refundable — including any payments that are part of a payment plan. By enrolling in a payment plan, you are committing to the full cost of the Intensive, even if you later cancel, wish to reschedule outside the policy window, or choose not to complete the Intensive.
This policy is in place due to the highly personalized and unique nature of the Counseling Intensive, ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately to meet your specific therapeutic goals while also respecting the investment of my time and energy.
If you’re unsure what might work best, I’m always happy to talk it through.
