Is your relationship is on the rocks? Are the number of “off limits” or “hot button” topics growing? Do you often feel unheard and unimportant? Somehow worthless and unlovable?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be looking for answers. Please consider couples therapy as a way to repair or improve your relationship. There are many different types of couples therapy. One that may be especially beneficial is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
Enter EFT
EFT, designed by Dr. Sue Johnson, is a type of relationship counseling that helps people better understand and express their emotions. It doesn’t than focus on the “facts” (which can be argued). It focuses on the emotional connection between partners and helps them to repair any damage that has been done to that connection.
EFT has been shown to be highly effective in repairing relationships that are hanging by a thread. In fact, in one study, 80% of couples who started EFT counseling as a “last resort,” were still together after five years. If you’re considering couples therapy, we hope you consider EFT.
Not only will it help you understand and express your emotions, it will also help you understand your partner’s emotions and experience, which will very likely help repair your relationship. You see, when we feel secure, we’re confident about depending on loved ones. We are better at seeking support. We’re also better at giving it.
When we feel safely linked to our partners, we more easily roll with the hurts they invariably inflict. We’re also less likely to be aggressively hostile when we get mad at them.
Secure connections to a loved one is empowering. Interestingly, securely bonded adults are more curious and more open to new information. For example, they are also more comfortable with ambiguity, which means that they are more comfortable sitting with questions and more open to finding the creative solutions needed to solve them.
